About Penang
An island and mainland state where new launches split between high-rise on the island and landed homes on the mainland
Penang is made up of Penang Island, home to George Town and the Bayan Lepas industrial and airport area, and Seberang Perai on the mainland. Land on the island is scarce, so most island launches are condominiums and serviced residences, while the mainland, including Batu Kawan, Simpang Ampat and Bukit Mertajam, has most of the landed launches.
Two bridges link the island and the mainland: the Penang Bridge and the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge. The Mutiara Line LRT, from the island to the mainland, is under construction and targeted for completion in December 2031. ETS trains run from Butterworth on the mainland.
